Payment Quote
Pronunciation: PAY-muhnt KWOHT
Also known as: Crypto Payment Quote
Definition
Payment Quote is a time-bound statement of the asset, network, amount, exchange rate, fees, and expiration conditions offered for a crypto payment.
Overview
How it works and why it matters
A payment quote specifies how much of a particular asset a payer must send to satisfy an obligation at a given time. It may contain exchange rate, accepted token and network, expiry, rounding, fee treatment and tolerance rules. The quote can become invalid before a transaction settles. A sound system preserves the quote version used when the customer initiated payment and defines treatment for partial or late transfers rather than silently applying whatever rate is current.
Practical checks
Store the quote’s creation time, expiry, precision, acceptable token amount and the policy for paying early versus confirming late. When a customer submits part of the quoted amount before expiry and the remainder after, your rules must choose whether to preserve, extend or replace the quote without silently changing the customer’s obligation.

Example
A $120 invoice displays a quote of 0.05 ETH valid for ten minutes. The buyer broadcasts 0.05 ETH at minute nine, but it confirms at minute twelve. The merchant needs a stated policy for whether broadcast time, receipt time or confirmation time determines quote validity.
Comparison
A quote is an offer or calculation, not a guarantee the merchant has received value. Spot rate, executed exchange rate and final settlement amount may differ.
Key Takeaway
Record the precise quote and expiry rule that governed the customer's payment attempt.
